What is ‘match on action’?
‘Match on action’ is an editing/filming technique. It is done by adding
2 or more shots of the same action to a sequence. For example, if someone was
opening a door you would have a shot from behind, then a close up on them
pulling the handle and then a shot of them from the other side of them coming
through the door. Different shots are used to show something significant, so a
close up is used or just to provide different angles to a shot.
This video shows a very good example of match on action.
